An international industry-academia organization to promote partnership between Thailand and Japan in the field of smart industrial safety.

On February 24, 2021, at the Thailand-Japan Smart Industrial Safety Forum 2021 (organizers: The Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Thai Ministry of Industry) held by Online seminar, the Japan Management Association (JMA, chairman: Masami Nakamura) signed the Memorandum of Understanding on establishing the Thailand-Japan Smart Industrial Safety Consortium with Technology Promotion Association (TPA), Faculty of Engineering of Chulalongkorn University, and Thai Institute of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry (TIChE). The signatories agreed to the establishment of Consortium in 2021, and to the establishment of the consortium's Secretariat Office in JMA on the Japanese side

The Thai Ministry of Industry and the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry agreed the “Memorandum of Cooperation on Smart Industrial Safety” in June 2018, and have been promoting intergovernmental partnership in the field of smart industrial safety, with the aim of strengthening industrial safety power through the application of new technologies, such as the IoT, AI, and drones, to industrial safety operations in the plants and other infrastructure of both countries. Responding to this process, JMA has partnered with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry to launching the “Japan-Thailand Smart Industrial Safety Consortium Foundation Preparatory Committee” in November 2020, with the aims of advancing industrial safety in both Thailand and Japan, and spreading related technical collaboration and educational programs. The members of this committee are experts in industry and academia in Thailand and Japan, and it has been studying matters towards the establishment of the Consortium. The content of the Preparatory Committee's deliberations has been discussed with the Thai signatories to this memorandum, leading to the signing of this memorandum on the establishment of this Consortium.

The planned main themes in the work of this Consortium are 1) trade talks and technical exchange, 2) education and human resource development, and 3) system design and standardization. It is also scheduled to organize trade talks and seminars within “Maintenance & Resilience Asia 2021”, a specialized smart industrial safety trade show taking place at BITEC in Bangkok on September 22 (Wednesday) to 24 (Friday), 2021. The official establishment of this Consortium is planned to take place in or after April 2021, after which it will start to enroll member companies and bodies.
